This position is currently located at USAG Yongsan, Area II, in Seoul, Republic of Korea. However, the position is scheduled to be relocated to USAG Humphreys, Korea as a result of the Yongsan Relocation Plan. Relocation costs will be paid in accordance with the Joint Travel Regulations for employees directed to relocate to the Pyeongtaek area.


Selectees initially recruited from the United States may receive certain foreign area benefits, such as Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees recruited from outside the United States will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire.


Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment. 


Required to work 12 hour rotating shifts that will include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.


Management prefers applicants are emergency medicine board certified or board eligible.


Seoul is the capital and largest metropolis in South Korea. It is a mega-city with a population of more than 10 million people. Seoul is the heart of Korea's culture and education as well as politics and economics. It is the home to many old historic sites like Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palaces, and places of traditional culture like Bukchon Hanok Village, Insa-dong, and Namdaemun Market. The shopping and entertainment districts of Myeongdong and Apgujeong, and Asia's largest underground shopping center COEX Mall also draw a large number of tourists every year. The Hangang River, which runs through the center of the city, is also a distinctive landscape of Seoul that offers a myriad of resting areas for citizens.


This position is projected to move between 2019- 2020 from Seoul to Camp Humphrey's.

As a Physician (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs comprehensive and problem focused histories and physical examinations.
  • Examines, diagnoses, and treats walk-in and clinic appointments for patients with a variety of pain complaints.
  • Performs advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as appropriate to treat acute and chronic pain (in the clinic as well as the operating room).
  • Serve as a sub-specialty consultant to other departments, services, and healthcare providers for a variety of diseases and conditions marked by acute and chronic pain.
  • Oversees, teach, lecture, mentor, and provide consultation to other health care providers.



Basic Requirement for Physician (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) :

  Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).
  Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training.
  Licensure/Certification: Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  Experience Required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.  To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least 4 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training in the specialty of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. This required Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation experience/training will include skills such as, but not limited to, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients who are referred primarily for comprehensive pain management and/or a functional restoration program.
