Background:

This position is located at the Dwight D Eisenhower Army Medical Center, in a Primary Care Clinic at Fort Gordon, GA. 

Fort Gordon is nestled along the Savannah River banks in Augusta, GA., which is the second largest and oldest city in Georgia. The city is less than 150 miles east of Atlanta and is an easy drive from Atlantic beaches and the mountains. While Augusta is known worldwide for the Masters golf tournament, you'll find that the "Garden City of the South" is full of history, atmosphere, and activities to engage everyone's interest. Residents enjoy tree-lined streets with extensive shopping, dining, culture, and entertainment. 

Responsibilities

Description:

Scope of services include, but are not limited to;

  • The nurse practitioner is assigned to the Oncology Services under general supervision and direction of the Chief of Oncology,
  • Administer direct physical care to selected patients/families.
  • Independently assess acute and non-acute clinical problems and treatment toxicity.
  • Perform the following invasive procedures independently: lumbar puncture, bone marrow biopsy, thoracentesis, fine needle aspirate, central line removal and paracentesis.
  • Case manages the most complex oncology patients to assess, monitor and evaluate care, i.e., chemotoxicities, comorbidities, and psychosocial issues.
  • Work in collaboration with physicians in the management of complex medical problems.
  • Manage phone calls and communication with patients, family members and other health care centers regarding device checks and recommendations.
  • Review and update protocols and standards of care based on current research and clinical practice guidelines related to device management.
  • Establish operating parameters and processes for the device data management system.
  • Complete required records (both paper and electronic) pertaining to all medical services provided in accordance with specified procedures and regulations.
  • Exercises independent judgment with full responsibility for professional diagnosis, treatment, referral and disposition of patients, IAW Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
  • Ensures the highest standards of professional practice and ethics are maintained.
  • Participates in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and quality assurance activities as assigned.

  • Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required
  • Graduate Training: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:  The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).  In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
  • The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. 
  • Must be skilled in Microsoft Word and have proficient computer skills.

Other Requirements:

  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • These positions require a Childcare Background Check (CNACI).
  • These positions are a Testing Designated Positions (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. Applications from such individuals shall not be considered for employment for a period of 6 months from the date of the test results.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • These positions are subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement physical examination may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This announcement may be used to fill Supervisory positions. A one year supervisory probationary/trial period may be required.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). 
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
