Fort Irwin is located approximately 37 miles northeast of Barstow, California midway between Las Vegas, Nevada and Los Angeles, California.   • Position Description

    Serves as an expert and consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology with emphasis on ambulatory care. Is responsible for examination, diagnosis, and treatment of the full range of OB/GYN patients. Complicated cases requiring treatment or services for which existing hospital facilities are not adequate are referred to other civilian or military medical facilities. Incumbent should have expertise in both abdominal and trans-vaginal ultrasonography as pertains to ambulatory medicine. Incumbent must be able to utilize and perform screening and diagnostic modalities for OB/GYN malignancies (biopsies and colposcopy), as well as provide primary preventive care and education for women seen in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic. Incumbent should be able to evaluate both functional and dysfunctional problems related to the female pelvis to include masses, pain, urological complaints, bleeding abnormalities, hormonal dysfunction, and infections. Incumbent must be able to evaluate emergency obstetrical problems and subsequently treat or appropriately refer the same.


Position Description

Perform highly responsible duties in the advanced examination and treatment of patients referred for consultation. Based on professional ability conducts thorough evaluations of patients presenting medical management problems. Evaluates both laboratory and clinical findings and provides appropriate treatment and follow-up care for patients. Must be able to collaborate with specialists in other areas on interrelated problem. Admits an discharges patients as required. Works in Labor and delivery for the delivery of infants. Will be required to handle emergencies and perform call duties


Position Description

Participates in the medical education training program within the department. Guides, instructs, and trains residents, interns, medical students, and other professional personnel as required in ambulatory OB-GYN care. Lectures to department personnel on aspects of ambulatory OB-GYN care when requested


  • Performs independent, specialized and comprehensive ante-partum, intra-partum and post-partum nursing care to normal to high-risk obstetric patients.
  • Provide continuous observation and intervention to prevent complications and maintain/restore maternal and fetal health.
  • Observe, assess and document acute changes in patient condition.
  • Assume circulation role in the operating room for scheduled and emergent cesarean-sections and cesarean-hysterectomy.
  • Provide care to patients presenting complicated and uncomplicated pregnancy and labor concerns.
  • Provide newborn care for vaginal deliveries, routine scheduled cesarean and emergent cesarean sections.
  • Implement routine or high-risk transition care protocols for normal and high-risk newborns following delivery.


  • Graduate of an accredited OB/GYN residency 
  • MD or DO 
  • Board Certified/Eligible
  • Current, un-restricted license
  • BLS certification (NRP also preferred) 
  • Current DEA and NPI 
  • US Citizen
