    This position is located at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, Ft. Polk, LA.

    As a Nurse Anesthetist, you will:

    • Anesthetize patients for a broad range of surgeries extending from the simplest to the most complex of surgical procedures.
    • Evaluate data, with respect to individualized anesthetic options and current recommended practices within the field, to determine and discuss the optimal type of anesthesia to be used, and to explain expected
      outcomes and possible anesthetic complications.
    • Administer anesthetic by inhalation, endotracheal intubation, regional, intravenous, or topical.
    • Observe the patient during the surgery, to accomplish and maintain the proper level of anesthesia depth and to prevent over-dosage.
    • Provide immediate, post-operative care to patients during their return to the intensive care unit or recovery room, to ensure clear patient airway, stable vital signs, hemodynamic stability, adequate pain control and avoidance of adverse reactions from anesthesia.

    Successful completion of a course of study for nurses in anesthesia of at least 18 month's duration that was accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for the year of their graduation.



    Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.


    Experience required:

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: administering general, regional, and topical anesthetics, monitoring patient during operation to maintain the proper stage of narcosis and to prevent overdose, and/or providing post-operative care to patients to minimize or eliminate adverse reactions from anesthesia. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.


    Certification Requirement:

    Advanced Practive Registered Nurse Anesthetists will maintain a current Certification from the Council of Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.
