    Responsibilities

    Performs duties as a an Advance Practice Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse (Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist w/ Prescriptive Authority or eligible for Prescriptive Authority) and consultant in collaboration with Psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity and must come to the position with knowledge and experience (ideally working with the military population) providing treatment services in any capacity including, but not limited to, Tele-Behavioral Health Services, intensive outpatient services, routine outpatient services, consultation liaison services and must be well- versed to transition to any area as required. Provide continuing follow-up care for chronic inpatients and outpatients with acute disorders and complications of these disorders, such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, substance abuse/addictions, etc. Provide psychiatric care for walk-in patients presenting with acute illnesses of minor and major proportions. Expected to exercise initiative and sound judgment in establishing evaluation techniques, developing treatment plans and rehabilitation plans.

    Qualifications

    A. Education: Masters Degree or Post-Masters Certificate from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

    B. Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, DC, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the US and ANCC Certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health NP or CNS.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicant must possess one year of specialized experience which equipped the applicant with knowledge of a wide range of mental health nursing concepts to include emergency psychiatric nursing assessments for safety and level of care screenings, IAW Standards of Nursing Practice and Advance Practice Nursing, Expert knowledge of Nursing and Advance Practice Nursing and the ability to focus this knowledge on the provision of Tele-Behavioral Health Care. Expert knowledge regarding the use of psychotropic medications. Must be able to prescribe Psychotropic medications. Expert knowledge with managed care practices and procedures that assist in analyzing the full scope of problems associated with providing appropriate cost effective psychiatric care to DoD beneficiaries. Expert knowledge of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder as it relates to military deployments (pre, during and post.) Expert knowledge of mental health issues in a pre and post combat setting. Specific knowledge of military Command Directed Evaluation.
