Overview

This position is located in the Behavioral Health Department at Fort Drum, NY.

 

Fort Drum is a U.S. Army military reservation and a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson County, near the western border of northern New York, United States. The population of the CDP portion of the base was 12,955 at the 2010 census. It is home to the 10th Mountain Division.

 

Fort Drum consists of 107,265 acres. Its mission includes command of active component units assigned to the installation, providing administrative and logistical support to tenant units, support to active and reserve units from all services in training at Fort Drum, and planning and support for the mobilization and training of almost 80,000 troops annually.

 

Located in the picturesque Thousand Islands Region of northern New York State, this installation is located in one of the most unique and beautiful areas of the United States. Fort Drum is located in Jefferson County, approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to our west and the Adirondack Mountains to our east. The Adirondack Mountains, Lake Ontario, and the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands Region are prime tourist attractions. Watertown, New York and the tri-county areas of Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence surrounding the installation are rich with history and tradition.

Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse (Psychiatric/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner), you will:

 

•Provide comprehensive care for psychiatric patients based upon the multi-disciplinary treatment plan and the mental, emotional and physical needs of the patient and provides assessment of acute and non-acute clinical problems and toxicity's as they relate to a patient's psychiatric condition.

 

•Perform intake procedures for psychiatric patients.

 

•Collaborate with the patient's total treatment team in order to formulate a total treatment plan.

 

•Prescribe medications according to accepted standards of psychiatric practice that is preferentially evidenced based.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.  Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

  • Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
  • Registration: Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territory of the United States.
  • Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: prescribing medications, performing routine and comprehensive physical examinations, reviewing medical histories, and/or evaluating behavior and reaction patterns used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

 US Citizen One year experience as a Clinical Nurse (Psychiatric/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner).

Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or a territory of the U.S.
 
All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification.
 
Current Advanced Life Support of other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
