DUTIES:
The incumbent serves as a dispensing pharmacy technician performing most or all of the following duties that can range from routine to difficult. Receives and reviews prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs on the formulary. Determines type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacy standard operating procedures (SOPs). Enters prescriptions into outpatient computer system reviewing profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions, and duplicate orders. Coordinates with prescriber or pharmacist to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions. Scans the prescriptions for the filler and checker after typing prescriptions and then fills the prescription; obtains the pharmaceutical, prepares package labels, visually inspects the medication in the bottle to be dispensed, verifies appropriate medication, checks the printed label affixed to the container against the original prescription for correctness. When the prescription has been filled and labeled, container is set aside for a final check by the supervising pharmacist. Incumbent attends the dispensing window for pick up; provides instruction to patients on proper use of medications, referring questions requiring professional knowledge and experience to the registered pharmacist. Performs all outpatient functions with minimal supervision by the register pharmacist.

Must possess and maintain current licensure in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
THIS POSITION IS COVERED BY THE CIVILIAN DRUG ABUSE TESTING PROGRAM. INCUMBENT IS REQUIRED TO SIGN A DA FORM 5019-R, AND/OR DA FORM 7412 "CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT FOR CERTAIN CIVILIAN POSITIONS IDENTIFIED AS CRITICAL UNDER THE DRUG ABUSE TESTING PROGRAM."
THIS IS AN INCLEMENT WEATHER ESSENTIAL POSITION: INCUMBENT IS EXPECTED TO MAKE EVERY ATTEMPT TO REPORT FOR DUTY ON TIME AND/OR REMAIN ON DUTY DURING SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS.
REQUIRED TO WORK WEEKEND CALL DUTIES AND EVENINGS.
This position requires a Pre-Appointment Physical.
This position requires a drug test.
This position may require heavy lifting of 40 lbs.
This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct 96 the position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.
Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
This position is part of the TDP in accordance with AR-600-85. This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
PTCB National Pharmacy license/certification may be required.
