Overview

This position is located at Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport, FL.

 

 

The Naval Branch Health Clinic ( NBHC) Mayport was established in 1943 at Building Nine on Naval Station Mayport. The clinic later moved to Building One before its current location in Building 2104. NBHC Mayport was dedicated to Medal of Honor recipient Hospital Corpsman Robert R. Ingram on March 26, 2004. It is part of Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s six health care facilities in Florida and Georgia. 

 

NAS Jacksonville is in Duval County, Florida, within the city limits of Jacksonville. The base sits on a piece of land between the St. Johns River and Ortega River historically called Black Point. The airbase is part of the overall Jacksonville Naval Complex, a collection of Navy Bases in the Jacksonville Metropolitan Area that include Naval Station Mayport, the former Naval Air Station Cecel Field (now Ceceil Airport), Naval Outlying Landing Field Whitehouse, and the Pinecastle Range Complex. It also neighbors a small ghost town called Yukon.

 

 

Responsibilities

As a Medical Technician you will:

 

  • Collects patient samples when necessary.
  • Ensures timely distribution to laboratory sections of all specimens received.
  • Performs clinical laboratory tests on specimens as ordered.
  • Evaluates and interprets results to determine if data is complete and valid.
  • Performs and calculates manual cell counts.
  • Processes laboratory specimens for shipment.
  • Performs all required specimen preparations prior to storage and shipment.
  • Conducts necessary quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
  • Performs necessary laboratory periodic equipment checks.
  • Assists in training laboratory personnel, staff and students.
  • Routine Equipment Setup and Maintenance.

Qualifications

US Citizenship required

 

Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is required.
