Overview

This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center Dir of Behavioral Health Social Work Services, Fort Bliss, TX.

 

Fort Bliss is a United States Army post in New Mexico and Texas, with its headquarters in El Paso, Texas. Established in 1848, the fort was renamed in 1854 to honor Bvt. Lt. Colonel William W.S. Bliss, U.S. Army officer, private secretary and son-in-law of President Zachary Taylor.

 

Fort Bliss has an area of about 1,700 square miles. It is the largest installation in FORSCOM (United States Army Forces Command) and second largest in the Army overall, the largest being the adjacent White Sands Missile Range. The portion of the post located in El Paso County, Texas, is a census-designated place with a population of 8,591 in the 2010 census. Fort Bliss provides the largest contiguous tract of restricted airspace in the Continental United States, used for missile and artillery training and testing, and at 992,000 acres has the largest maneuver area, ahead of the National Training Center, which has 642,000 acres.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Supervisory Social Worker in Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) Department of a Defense Health Agency (DHA) Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Independently plan and carry out assigned duties in accordance with accepted professional Social Work theories, techniques and professional practice standards.
  • Provide guidance to the SARP Associate Department Head regarding policy and processes related to Behavioral Health issues, substance disorders, psychological and clinical consultation.
  • Provide targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
  • Plan and organize work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts long and short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work and assign work to subordinates based on priorities.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates, give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for position in the unit, recommend appointment, promotion, or other personnel actions.
  • Hear and resolve complaints from employees.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • On call, holidays and weekends maybe required.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires that applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position requires Tuberculosis testing.
  • Hepatitis B immunizations is required.

Individual Occupational Requirement for Social Worker:

Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (NOTE: You must attach copy of your transcripts)

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting psychosocial evaluations; providing individual and/or group therapy; and leading others in work related duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Selective Place Factor Requirement:

Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your license)
