Fort Irwin is located in the high desert of the Mojave, 40 miles north of Barstow, CA and the home of the National Training Center (NTC).  The NTC is the Army’s premier training site and trains over 50,000 troops a year in preparation for deployments worldwide.  We support the NTC’s mission to “Train the Force”.  Our organization has the mission to provide world-class healthcare to the 12,000 Soldiers and Family Members of the NTC, Fort Irwin and Yuma Proving Grounds (Yuma, AZ), as well as to support the rotational training units. Weed Army Community Hospital (WACH) is a small community hospital supported by over 400 military and civilian staff members with an inpatient capacity of 20 beds including both Mother/Baby and Medical/Surgical Wards.

Responsibilities

Duties:

  • Analyzes patterns and trends to determine appropriate, effective and economical prescribing and dispensing of medications.
  • Develops in coordination with expert physician consultants, prescribing guidelines for a number of drug categories or Diagnosis Related Groups.
  • Reviews existing drug treatment for appropriateness and develops with the attending physician new treatment regimens for especially difficult or complex cases.
  • Monitors progress and response to the regimen, modifying dosages as necessary.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Pharmacist (Clinical):

Degree: Completion of a doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

License: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes monitoring the dispensing of pharmaceuticals in a medical facility, analyzing medications effectiveness, and providing medication counseling to patients or educating staff.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
