DUTIES:
The incumbent serves as a dispensing pharmacy technician performing most or all of the followingduties that can range from routine to difficult. Receives and reviews prescriptions for the full rangeof pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs on the formulary. Determines type of substance,strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacystandard operating procedures (SOPs). Enters prescriptions into outpatient computer systemreviewing profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions, and duplicate orders.Coordinates with prescriber or pharmacist to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, orinstructions. Scans the prescriptions for the filler and checker after typing prescriptions and thenfills the prescription; obtains the pharmaceutical, prepares package labels, visually inspects themedication in the bottle to be dispensed, verifies appropriate medication, checks the printed label affixed to the container against the original prescription for correctness. When the prescription hasbeen filled and labeled, container is set aside for a final check by the supervising pharmacist.Incumbent attends the dispensing window for pick up; provides instruction to patients on properuse of medications, referring questions requiring professional knowledge and experience to theregistered pharmacist. Performs all outpatient functions with minimal supervision by the registered pharmacist.
Basic Requirements:
US Citizenship required
Must possess and maintain current licensure in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
Must have one year of specialized experience which includes utilizing automated pharmacy systems to enter and retrieve data, dispensing medications to correct customer, and relaying information to patients on proper use of medications.
