About the Position: The incumbentserves as a Nursing Assistant in any of several areas of a Medical Treatment Facility.

Responsibilities

Duties

  • Review electronic health record and documents patient information.
  • Obtain vital signs, height, weight, and records into electronic health record.
  • Recognize abnormal results and reports to the nurse in charge or medical provider.
  • Set up equipment and instruments and hands instruments to health care providers as required.
  • Clean wounds, applies bandages after suturing, assists in removal of sutures, staples, and dressings during examination and treatment.
  • Instruct patients and families on proper procedure or obtaining laboratory, x-ray and other diagnostic exams in accordance with established protocols.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required with childcare background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which performing a range of nursing care support duties such as obtaining vital signs (i.e., blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, etc.), setting up equipment's and instruments for health care providers and accurately recording patient data in the medical record. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in nursing or related field of study.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
