Overview

This position is located at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center,  Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Responsibilities

Duties

  • Serve as Paramedic, First responder and on-site member of an emergency response team (ERT) of an assigned Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) or Medical Center (MC) with responsibility for the Emergency Response Team/Paramedic mission.
  • Provide a combination of technical (nonprofessional medical) and administrative tasks related to the Advance Life Support (ALS) treatment and care of patients in an emergency environment inside and outside the MTF/MC emergency room setting.
  • Performs Triage to determine number and severity of victims’ and their conditions.
  • Performs site assessment of incident location to determines requirements needed for additional or specialty resources, relay situation report and requests to supporting emergency service facility.
  • Conduct intake procedures obtains general medical information, including allergies and drug sensitivities; and takes and records vital signs.
  • Recognize, stabilize, and provide emergent health care to a range of patients presenting with complex or multiple emergency systems dysfunctions, injuries and/or disorders: (e.g., airway obstruction, respiratory arrest; cardiac arrest; stroke;
  • (continued) mechanical breathing aids; shock, fluid therapy; wounds; childbirth; pharmacological crisis; diabetic emergency, electrocution, and various communicable and non-communicable diseases, etc.).
  • Provide transport of emergency victim to medical treatment facility for further treatment or emergency inpatient care.
  • Emergency Vehicles (EV) Operation. Ensures emergency vehicles are operational and ready, performing routine operator safety checks and emergency vehicle maintenance inspections of the vehicle.
  • Coordinates with the 911 center or available crews for emergency ambulance response to include the military police and fire department personnel.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes: (1) responding to emergencies (i.e. as an paramedic, first responder, and/or on-site emergency response team (ERT) member) of an assigned medical treatment facility or medical center with the responsibility of supporting emergency response mission; (2) perform on-site preliminary assessments of an incident by performing victim triage and treatment supporting emergency service facility; AND (3) providing transport of emergency victim to medical treatment facility for further treatment or emergency inpatient care. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
