Overview

This position is with the Defense Health Agency located within the Directorate of Mental Health Social Services at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. As a Social Worker (Clinical) serves as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of complex clinical social work services and mental health care services, including status exams and care for wounded, ill, and injured members.

Responsibilities

As a  Clinical Social Worker you will:

 

  • Collect bio-psycho-social information about patients using interview, case history, and observation techniques and assessment methods.
  • Analyze information collected to determine diagnosis, treatment plan and/or advisability of counseling or referral to other specialists or institutions.
  • Provide individual, family, and group clinical counseling services to identify and manage personal, psychological and interactive problems associated with occupation and personal adjustment.
  • Develop individual treatment plans based on psychiatric diagnosis, identified problems, and treatment needs for each case.
  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness and make adjustments to patient's treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Utilize social work systems and psychological theories, principals and technics in treatment plan development.
  • Coordinate with patients work environment, social service agencies, primary care, specialty clinics, and other organizations to promote seamless service and support.
  • Document case work to comply with regulations, such as outcome/assessment results and high-risk clinical issues.
  • Fulfill continued education requirements to maintain active licensure and familiarity with current science.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Clinical):

Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (You MUST submit a copy of your transcript with your application package or you will be rated ineligible.)

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: conducting biopsychosocial assessments, evaluations, and recommendations on patients; developing, implementing, and monitoring behavioral health treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Licensure: This position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
